Dear Tulane Community:
Coach Fritz is right.
After last week's heroic comeback but heartbreaking loss to Navy, the Green Wave head coach is emphasizing the importance of always focusing on the future and learning from, but not dwelling on, the past.
This is a good lesson for any stage or situation in life. It is also one of the many reasons for us to join together and celebrate our team, our academic community, our family, our friends and our university during Wave '19 Homecoming, Family and Reunion weekend.
Wave '19 culminates this weekend with the big game tomorrow against Tulsa plus plenty of campus tours, exhibitions, tailgating and other special events. You can even take a canoe trip down the bayou or brunch at the Glazer Family Club. The full schedule of fun is here. Come Monday, we will remember the joy of reconnecting with family, meeting old friends and making new ones while reaffirming our identity as members of the incomparable Tulane community.
And, like our student-athletes, we will use the lessons learned from the past as we move forward with our plans for the future. There is so much on our agenda. At the top of the list, is our ongoing effort to continue enhancing the student experience by educating the whole person – intellectually, emotionally and socially. The Commons and our new residential learning communities play a huge role in this by providing spaces that promote student collaboration, innovation, scholarship, service and friendship. Our goal is to teach students to love knowledge for its own sake while also preparing them to use that knowledge to tackle the most pressing issues of our time. Our future also includes building a more welcoming, supportive and diverse community and placing an ever greater emphasis on pioneering research that saves and improves lives.
Finally, we are working toward the completion of our comprehensive Master Plan. In the coming years, we will grow our physical presence in countless ways — all with the goal of fostering community and bolstering collaborations between science, engineering, the humanities, architecture and more.
We have a lot on our plate — including cheering our team to victory tomorrow!
