Dear Tulane Community:
Homecoming has finally arrived, bringing with it some crisp fall weather (well, by NOLA standards, anyway) and a chance for us to gather, reunite and celebrate as a Green Wave family. Homecoming festivities began popping up all this week, from the traditional Lighting of McAlister and introduction of the Homecoming Court to special comedy shows, fun runs and concerts.
But the bon temps really start to rouler beginning at 2 p.m. today with the Homecoming Carnival on the Berger Family Lawn just outside the LBC. There will be amusement rides, food trucks, a pep rally, music and more. We’ll also celebrate a host of reunions and other special events throughout the day and the Helluva Hullabaloo Auction tonight with a concert by The New Orleans Suspects and a spectacular fireworks show. Tailgating begins at 11 a.m. Saturday ahead of the big game against Cincinnati at 3 p.m.
I hope to see you at as many of these special Homecoming celebrations as possible. After a harrowing storm season in which our neighbors to the east, west and south lost so much and to whom we are still reaching out to help, this year’s Homecoming might mean a little more than just fun, football and frivolity. It might also be a good reminder of how fortunate we are to be together – and home.
