Dear Tulane Community:
The campus, city and the entire Tulane nation are excited about Saturday’s championship matchup between the nationally ranked Tulane Green Wave and the nationally ranked University of Central Florida.
This has been a truly magical season of historic achievement by our student-athletes who, through their scholarship and service, are as impressive off the field as they are on it. We are so proud of our team, Coach Willie Fritz — the AAC Coach of the Year — and his staff. We are also pleased that Coach Fritz will stay at Tulane and continue guiding the Green Wave to further greatness.
Our gridiron success is the exclamation point at the end of a year of excellence across the 17 teams and more than 350 student-athletes who proudly represent Tulane in intercollegiate competition. This year, the Green Wave sailing team captured the ICSA National Championship, and women’s golf took home its first-ever American Athletic Conference (AAC) Championship. Tulane also earned postseason berths in women’s basketball, bowling, tennis and track. In addition, we boasted six All-American selections among our student-athletes and 28 AAC All-Conference selections.
The success of our student-athletes is emblematic of Tulane’s upward trajectory across the board. Team Tulane is enjoying unprecedented success in admissions, student achievement, research funding, cutting-edge scholarship and in its local, national and global impact.
The uptown campus, where Saturday’s contest will take place, is undergoing an unprecedented level of major construction and renovations of academic and residential buildings, all designed to take Tulane’s research mission, scholarship and student experience to the next level.
Downtown, we are pursuing a partnership with LCMC Health that will improve patient care both locally and nationally by expanding and integrating community and academic medicine and providing a bigger platform to bring Tulane’s life-saving discoveries and innovations to the world. This partnership is an integral part of the once-in-a-generation, transformational expansion currently underway on the downtown campus.
We have much to celebrate in the classrooms, laboratories and on the fields of competition. So, let’s all cheer on the Green Wave as they continue to reflect and represent the very best of Tulane.
