Homecoming at Last

Dear Tulane Community:

Reunions, concerts, parties, tours, visiting parents, the big game, court and more!

Homecoming and Family Weekend has finally arrived. We have hosted a dizzying array of special events and activities already this week and, as you can see by this schedule, there is plenty more to come.

When you read this, I will be busy preparing for another Homecoming tradition – the Town Hall meeting, which runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. today in Dixon Hall. I relish this opportunity to give parents, alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends a "State of the University" update and answer questions regarding all things Tulane. I hope to see you there, but if you can't make it to Dixon Hall, follow the action and ask questions via our live blog.

For this year's game I will continue my Homecoming tradition of wearing the jersey of an outstanding student-athlete. I selected the jersey of Green Wave running back and finance major Marshall Wadleigh. Here is a photo of Marshall and me. (That's me on the left.)

Marshall is a member of Tulane's 3.0 Club, an academic honors club for student-athletes. He was also a member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and earned C-USA's prestigious Academic Medal for posting a 4.0 GPA. Marshall has been nominated for the Brandon Burlsworth Award, which honors the nation's top walk-on, and the Wuerrfel Trophy, which goes to the athlete who best displays character on the field and in the classroom. Marshall has also been named to the 2015 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District 6 First Team. This makes him eligible for CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-American honors.

Poised, polite, humble and smart, Marshall exemplifies the best qualities of Tulane. Any university president would be honored to have him as a student. As I cheer on the Green Wave tomorrow, I will wear his jersey with pride and gratitude.
