The heart of Tulane is coming home.
Next week, students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff and friends will gather for the homecoming, reunions and family weekend that are all part of Wave '18.
The fun will begin with the Lighting of McAlister and presentation of the Homecoming Court on Monday, Nov. 5 and continue through the Closing Brunch at the Glazer Club on Sunday, Nov. 11. In between, there will be a fun run, a comedy night, open houses, lab tours, exhibitions, a concert featuring the Rebirth Brass Band, a pep rally, fireworks, tailgating, the big game against East Carolina, and much, much more. Wave '18 celebrates the present, embraces the future and honors the past. A huge part of Tulane's past – which has made our present and future possible – was Eamon Kelly, the renowned international scholar, acclaimed higher education leader and beloved president of Tulane from 1981 to 1998. Eamon was instrumental in Tulane becoming one of the nation's leading research universities. His work as co-founder of the Payson Graduate Program in Global Development, which he continued right up until his death last year, helped bring about lasting and transformative change in developing countries.
Tomorrow, Nov. 3, speakers from Tulane and all over the world will gather in Dixon Recital Hall for a day-long discussion of Eamon's legacy and how he helped them become leaders in their respective fields. This is a wonderful learning opportunity for anyone who aspires to leadership – a rare opportunity to hear some of the best remember and celebrate one of the best. I hope you will attend this special symposium.
