Dear Tulane Community:
Each November 11, we commemorate the service and sacrifice of our veterans through the national observance of Veterans Day.
Last week the 2023 Congressional Medal of Honor Society Convention, an annual gathering for recipients of the United States’ highest military award for valor in action, was held here in New Orleans at the National World War II Museum. Tulane was selected to host a community outreach event at our Naval ROTC building, featuring two Medal of Honor recipients sharing their insight and experiences with ROTC students from Tulane and our partner universities. It was a tremendous honor to host this memorable event — a moment that reflected our reputation as a university that values and supports its military community.
Not only on this holiday, but every day at Tulane, we honor our veterans and active-duty military through programs and initiatives that recognize their commitment and encourage their success. In addition to providing those who have honorably served in our military with the financial assistance they need to earn a degree, Tulane has created a strong network of support including a Student Veterans of America chapter, a Tulane Veterans Faculty and Staff Affinity Group, and dedicated services tailored to veterans through the Tulane Center for Brain Health.
I hope you’ll join me in giving our veterans a proper salute during Military Appreciation Day at tomorrow’s Green Wave vs. Tulsa football game at Yulman Stadium. They truly set an example for us all that exemplifies what it means to act not for one’s self, but for one’s own.
Warmly,
