Dear Tulane Community,
Beginning today, the eyes of the sports world are once again on New Orleans as the Crescent City welcomes the NBA's finest for tipoff at its annual All-Star Weekend. Tulane, as usual, has a courtside seat to the action!
NBA Day at Tulane begins today in Room 203 at the Lavin-Bernick Center with an NBA Legends Jam Session: A Conversation with Mike Dunleavy Sr. and Rick Barry from 10 to 11 a.m. Dunleavy, the head coach of the Tulane men's basketball team, is a former NBA player, "Coach of the Year," and general manager. Barry is an eight-time All-Star, a "Granny Style" free-throw maestro, and one of the NBA's "50 greatest players of all time."
Three panel discussions will follow this session, including NBA General Counsel: From Live Streaming to Wearable Technology: Hot Legal Topics in the NBA from 11:05 a.m. to 12:05 p.m., NBA Front Office: An Inside Look at Running an NBA Team from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. and NBA Journalism: The Daring Young Men on The Flying Trapeze from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. All sessions are free and open to the public and will include breakfast, lunch and refreshments.
Also this morning, I'm lacing up alongside current and retired NBA All-Stars and NBA legends at the NBA Junior Clinic (stranger things have happened) for elementary school students in the Reily Student Recreation Center. Registration is closed, but I promise to post some photos of all the fun on my Twitter account later today (if I can get one of me actually making a shot!). Will you be following the All-Star action this weekend? @ me on Twitter or Instagram with a picture and the hashtag #LikeMike, and I'll send some Tulane swag to the best responses.
