Dear Tulane Community,
Our nation has seen a significant uptick in violence, hatred and crimes against individuals of Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander American heritage over the past year. We are collectively heartbroken by these acts and by the recent horrific shootings in Atlanta, the hometown of many Tulane students, faculty and staff. We urge members of our Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander American community to rest, restore and heal.
Tulane is collaborating with our Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander American student organizations in offering support to this vital segment of our community. We are currently providing space in the Carolyn Barber Pierre Center for Intercultural Life, located in the Richardson Building, for a common gathering area to be together, to grieve, and to find a moment of quiet reflection. The Student Organization Center is also open during the day and hosting students who want to be with others during this difficult time. Finally, we invite any faculty, staff or student who would like to stop by the Student Organization Center on the ground floor of the LBC to provide supportive comments on a common wall. We will continue to update the Tulane community with more information about any planned vigils or gatherings.
Our Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander American colleagues, friends and neighbors have helped define our campus, our city and our nation. We stand side by side with them, united in condemning the intolerance and ignorance that begets such hatred and violence. Together, we will build a better future and a more just world that respects, supports and celebrates all.
Any students who may need personal assistance during this time can find resources for in-person, remote of after-hours support provided by Student Affairs. The Employee Assistance Program is available for faculty and staff seeking counseling or support. All of these resources are available to students and employees even if they aren't physically on campus.
